THE CALLINGTON SINGERS

ABOUT THE CHOIR

The Callington Singers at Gloucester Cathedral, July 2007

The Callington Singers, Callington's own Choral Society, was formed in April 1983 by Graham Williams who remains their Musical Director. Bringing in a membership from far and wide, they currently boast approximately 60 members of all ages and from all walks of life.

Concentrating mainly on classical music, the choir has performed not only all over the Southwest - from Penzance to Plymouth - but also in such prestigious venues as Truro, Exeter, Wells, Salisbury, Lichfield, Gloucester, Worcester and St Paul's cathedrals, in St George's Chapel Windsor, and in Westminster Abbey on three separate occasions.

They have established strong links with foreign choirs and have given concerts in France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Ireland. Choirs from these countries have also visited Callington on a regular basis, as have other choirs from the USA and from Japan, bringing valuable trade and national and international recognition to our town.
The Callington Singers have given performances on BBC Radio 2, Radio Cornwall, Plymouth Sound, Danish radio and on BBC television.

New members are always welcome.  There are no auditions and it is not necessary to be able to read music.  A regular commitment to the choir is a requirement.  Rehearsals are held between 7.30 and 9.15pm on Thursdays at Callington Primary School.  If you would like further information contact either the Musical Director, Graham Williams, on 01822 834642, 07816 168754 or at callingtonsingers@gmail or the Choir Chairman, Duncan Jackaman, on 01579 370323.
